Karajarri Traditional Lands Association – Indigenous Protected Area Program

The Karajarri Traditional Land Association (KTLA) with support from the Kimberley Land Council now have one of the biggest indigenous Land and Sea teams in the Kimberley Region of North- West Australia. The group of 19 people work tirelessly to protect country and culture, focusing primarily on the community driven targets of cultural knowledge revitalisation, protection of heritage sites, bush food utilisation, preservation of fresh and saltwater places and protection of marine resources. In more recent times the KTLA have utilised technology to assist in Cultural Heritage Management. The Karajarri Cultural Database helps to store, organise and share cultural information. This seminar will provide an overview of Indigenous Land Management from a Karajarri perspective while showing some of the more modern tools and initiatives for doing so.
